Hopefully by now you have caught on to the fact we had a
time change. It can take a while to pick
up on it though. In fact, while driving
this morning a radio announcer seemed to be a bit behind the ‘time’ in that she
was telling us the wrong time for about 30 minutes. Eventually she caught on and apologized. Blaming the clock in the studio. Sure.
Whatever she says.
While I am good about remembering to turn my clocks ahead to
‘spring forward’, this time of year is actually the most depressing for
me. Yes, I know it is daylight longer in
the afternoon now, and that is just great.
But, the early riser in me is mourning the fact it is dark so late into
the morning. This month or so before the
sun catches up in the morning, is really hard for me. I LOVE early morning sun, way more than I
love afternoon sun. I wonder why this
is?
Maybe it is because early morning sun feels so welcoming
and energetic. A big “Good Morning!”
from our Creator. Early morning sun is
soft and bright all at the same time.
Afternoon sun, it seems to me, is rather glaring and harsh. It may make walking the dog after work safer,
but for the most part it just glares in my eyes. It does not seem quite as cheerful. In fact, it makes me feel like I have to be
more productive later in the day, which is something I am definitely not good
at. Give me a productive morning and a
lazy evening any time.
Okay, I may be a bit scrooge-ish this evening. And, alright, I have to admit sitting here at
my desk, it is rather nice to look out on a sun filled street as opposed to a
dark one. And, fine, going to my church
meeting tonight before it gets dark out will probably be nice. So, maybe this whole time change thing isn’t
awful. But, I have to tell you... Going to and
from the gym this morning in complete darkness did not help me to wake up. In fact, I may need a little boost of
caffeine before my meeting. Those dark
mornings don’t wake me up too good (which is apparently why I cannot put together a coherent sentence). But,
I promise to be nicer and more cheerful in about a month, when both the
mornings and the evenings are full of saved day light!
This week will be back to normal, now that my ordination
is behind me (just call me The Rev.!)
Another Old-Fashioned Book Report will be coming your way and I think my
Life Experiment II is coming together, so look forward to that! Tomorrow I will share with you a wonderful invention I have created: the completely fat free, sugar free, very satisfying Treat Jar! In the meantime, I will try to get over my
early morning darkness pity party and embrace this afternoon of sunshine!
